Facilities Projects
Michael (Rombaoa, our new administrator) and I met with the Buildings and Grounds Committee last week to prioritize our campus projects that require contractors. We chose to prioritize them in order of urgency, and I later sorted them with Michael into two buckets, with the idea that we should always be working on one project in each bucket.
| Large Projects | Small / Medium Projects |
| Finish up the Gym Roof | (1) Seal the south gym wall against water intrusion (2) Fix and re-roof the gym walkway |
| Long-term fix the church heating system (abate the asbestos, reinstall wood floors with hatches, fix the damaged floors) | 2111 Ellis St. Projects: (1) renovate the bathroom, (2) run power to the garage, (3) paint the living room |
| Paint/re-roof the parish office building |
We only had two parishioners at the Buildings and Grounds meeting this time, so we need more volunteers. If you have skills/knowledge that would help us take care of our buildings and grounds, please contact michaelr@assumption.org.
Thank You Notes
Some of you saw some very old checks get deposited this week, and I want to explain why. When I was in seminary, Archbishop Sartain heavily emphasized our responsibility to write thank you notes to everyone who sent us gifts or financial support. This was a really good habit to get in to, and I was faithful to it my entire time in seminary. In fact, I set myself a rule that I could not deposit or use any financial gifts until the thank you note had been written.
However, once I was ordained a priest, I learned that people are very generous with their priests, and the thank you notes for Christmas in particular take a very long time, often multiple of my days off during the winter. So, as I am sure many of you can relate, it becomes one of those projects that seems too big to start most days, and it just keeps getting put off until more time than you realize has passed. Well, that happened this year: we hit July, and I hadn’t really opened or addressed my Christmas mail. So I just had to give up. This week, I opened all the mail, read it, gave thanks for each person as I went, and just gave up on the individual thank you notes. Still, it is important to say thank you, so this bulletin will have to suffice: thank you to everyone who has given me a gift in the last year! I know who you are and I am deeply appreciative of your care for me.
