February 12, 2021 – Pastor’s Note

Recently, a school grandmother wrote to me to sing the praises of our school, and I would like to use this Pastor’s Note to pass along what she said (slightly edited for form and context):

“Under the leadership of Dan Anderson and the exceptional work of our teachers, Assumption did not miss a day of school. [Last March,] the students left on a Thursday… no school on that Friday and were on-line on Monday. And starting in September preschool through 6th grade has been in school full time with the exception of a little bump in the road… 7th and 8th grades followed.

We have an excellent group of teachers at Assumption who work extremely hard for the benefit of our students. We are so very lucky to have Dan Anderson as our principal, a man of great faith and leadership second to none.  And a very kind supportive staff in the office. It’s a well-known fact that the students that come from Assumption Catholic School and enter the public high schools in Bellingham, stand out above the rest.  Both of our sons went all through Assumption and now of course [our grandchildren] are there and wouldn’t go anywhere else.  As [our granddaughter] recently told me, “we are a family at school, I’ve known most of the kids in my class since preschool.” Assumption is a family…

[I think it is important to] mention the wonderful school we have and a [to offer a] public thank you to Dan, the teachers and staff for all their very hard work in learning the new way to educate the children on-line.  We are so very lucky to have Assumption School in our community and as you already know, our enrollment increased this year and not all of the new-comers are Catholic. Assumption Catholic School Rocks!”

I could not agree more! Catholic education serves the essential mission of giving our children a foundation of faith; in this pandemic, we have seen just how mission-oriented our school staff is through their heroic efforts; and many of the new families who have joined us, originally because we kept our doors open, are now planning to stay because they have seen the difference that a Catholic education can make in the life of a child. Thank you to everyone who supports ACS with their time, treasure, and prayers. May God continue the good work of our school!
