October 02, 2020 – Pastor’s Note

Last week I moved houses, from 211 Kentucky to 2111 Ellis, and there have been a lot of parishioners involved in the process. Some helped pack and move boxes and furniture, others helped clean, others helped with lawn and garden issues, still others have donated furniture or funds. It was truly a team effort (that is not over yet), and I want to express my deepest thanks to everyone who reached out and volunteered.

For me (and, hopefully, for these parishioners, too) this has been a fun and exciting process. Obviously, a new house is always exciting, but the true fun has been working together on a project. We all like to be part of a team and to know that we have contributed in some way to a welcome outcome. It is fun, and fulfilling, to work side-by-side for the common good.

In every way, this is also what parish life is all about. Working side-by-side for the common good, specifically the good of bringing the Gospel of Jesus Christ into the world. It is together, as a parish community, that we bring the message of salvation to our families, our friends, and the greater Bellingham community. It is together, as a parish community, that we witness to the love of God for all people when we look after the dignity of people through acts of social justice. It is together, as a parish community, that we act as vessels of grace by caring for our fellow parishioners physically, emotionally, and spiritually in all our different groups and prayer circles.

We are all part of team Jesus, and I hope you find it as exciting as I do to walk side-by-side in carrying out his mission in the world.
