The Book of Wisdom gives us a very different description of God than many other books of the Old Testament. Whereas the writers of the Pentateuch, due to their imperfect understanding of the Revelation they were receiving, often described God as volatile and implacable, the writer of Wisdom sees in God and his act of creation a beautiful and sublime plan that goes far beyond human understanding. And the message of the book is that those who learn to appreciate and understand God and God’s plan, through prayer and study, will be friends with God and infused with his spirit.
In other words, we need to be curious about God and our faith. We need to study him, question him, ponder him. We cannot allow ourselves to get stuck in the faith we learned as a child. We must constantly grow in our understanding of God, because the Wisdom of God is infinite and inexhaustible. As our reading says, Wisdom enters into holy souls from every generation and makes them friends of God.

El libro de Sabiduría nos da una descripción muy diferente de Dios que muchos otros libros del Antiguo Testamento. Mientras que los escritores del Pentateuco, debido a su imperfecta comprensión de la revelación que recibían, a menudo describen a Dios como volátil e implacable, el escritor de Sabiduría ve en Dios y su acto de creación un hermoso y sublime plan que va mucho más allá de la comprensión humana. Y el mensaje del libro es que aquellos que aprenden a apreciar y entender a Dios y su plan, a través de la oración y el estudio, serán amigos de Dios e imbuidos de su espíritu.
En otras palabras, necesitamos tener curiosidad acerca de Dios y nuestra fe. Necesitamos estudiarlo, interrogarlo, meditarlo. No podemos permitirnos quedar atrapados en la fe que aprendimos cuando éramos niños. Debemos crecer constantemente en nuestra comprensión de Dios, porque la sabiduría de Dios es infinita e inagotable. Como dice nuestra lectura, la sabiduría “entra en las almas de los buenos de cada generación, hace de ellos amigos de Dios.”
