Any time that I have to get up in front of a church and ask for money, everybody always complains that money is the only thing the church talks about and we are always asking for money. Well, it seems that we come by it honestly. St. Paul uses a significant portion of his Second Letter to the Corinthians to ask them for money, and he gives them an entire discourse on how God takes care of those who give to holy causes, and it is from this discourse that we get our first reading today.
My friends, we must take St. Paul at his word. We are always so worried that if we give money to the Church, we will not have money for ourselves. Or if we give time to the Church, we will not have enough time for ourselves and we will be unhappy. But this is not true! Listen again to St. Paul: “Moreover, God is able to make every grace abundant for you, so that in all things, always having all you need, you may have an abundance for every good work.” If you give with a generous heart, God will always take care of you.

Cada vez que tengo que levantarme frente a una iglesia y pedir dinero, todo el mundo siempre se queja de que el dinero es lo único de lo que la iglesia habla y siempre estamos pidiendo dinero. Bueno, parece que lo conseguimos honestamente. San Pablo usa una porción significativa de su Segunda Carta a los Corintios para pedirles dinero y les da un discurso entero sobre cómo Dios cuida a los que dan a las causas santas, y es a partir de este discurso que recibimos nuestra Primera lectura de hoy.
Mis amigos, debemos tomar a San Pablo en su palabra. Siempre estamos tan preocupados que si damos dinero a la Iglesia, no tendremos dinero para nosotros mismos. O si damos tiempo a la Iglesia, no tendremos tiempo suficiente para nosotros mismos y seremos infelices. ¡Pero esto no es cierto! Escuchen de nuevo a San Pablo: ” Y poderoso es Dios para colmarlos de toda clase de favores, a fin de que, teniendo siempre todo lo necesario, puedan participar generosamente en toda obra buena.” Si usted da con un corazón generoso, Dios siempre cuidará de ti.
