March 22, 2024 – Pastor’s Note

Mulching

Thank you to our volunteers who did so much work to mulch the flower beds around the church. They look incredible! And it is really inspiring that volunteers are willing to do so much work to keep our campus beautiful.

Priest Announcements

We learned from the Archdiocese this week that the announcement for priest assignments will likely be the weekend of April 6/7. We expect that Whatcom County will have four priests: a pastor and three vicars.

Personal Schedule

I am gone for 2.5 weeks in April and 3 weeks in June, which is making it very difficult to continue to schedule with parishioners while also doing all the extra work that comes from getting ready for Partners in the Gospel. Not all of those weeks are vacation, either. Because people often ask, here is where I am going and what I am doing:

  • April 8 – 11: Annual Retreat, Austin, TX
  • April 12 – 15: Visit my dad in Dallas, TX
  • April 17 – 19: Pre-Partners Pastor Retreat/Training, Federal Way, WA
  • April 23 – 24: Visit to Seton Catholic High School, Vancouver WA (related to a quest for a high school up here)
  • June 10 – 30: Most of this is vacation, to reconnect with family and friends in Seattle
    • June 17 – 19: Priest Days, Ocean Shores, WA
    • June 24 – 26: Quo Vadis Days, Monroe, WA

New Employees

We have interviewed candidates for the Children’s Faith Formation and Marriage Coordinator positions, and hope to make offers before I leave in April. We are also interviewing for both the 1st Grade and 6th Grade positions at the school. I am encouraged by how overall excellent the candidates have been, and the hardest part about this process is only choosing one, which is the best possible problem to have. We are still working to schedule interviews for the Communications position and, of course, the new school principal.

No Bulletin Next Week

Next week’s bulletin will be the Easter bulletin, so the next regular bulletin will be sent April 05.
